PostSubject: Hi   Fri Feb 26, 2010 1:25 am

just came accross the site and thought i'd pop in and say hi. I have an unusual specialist subject with tuning engines, not the normal sort of tuning you would expect - however it does include turbo charging, supercharging and nitrous charging.

Hi and welcome to the site, enjoy your stay! Dont forget to get pics up of any cars and specs you have in the work of art or you and your car section.

So do you own a company or do you mean you work on your cars etc? Blonde moment haha

yeah i am in the process of doing an engine swap atm on my volvo 740. dropping in a 2litre turbo lump bored and stroked to 2.6 with a hybrid T40 turbo going in with full megasquirt fuel and spark management, bigger bottom end from an older series engine with 13mm con rods and a specialised enem v16 cam good for about 600hp being imported from sweden. hopefully going to swap out the auto box for a getrag t5 racing spec box later on in the year, and have got plans for staged nitrous controlled by an aux output from the megasquirt ecu. planning on about 350-400hp from the rear wheels. looks like a brick, but it'll be a fast one. planning to get about 11/12 seconds on the 1/4 mile from it. hoping to have it at USC this year which should be fun. i'll get laughed at but i dont give a **** about that, i'll just let the engine do the work ya know.

i dont run a company or anything, got 2 degree's, bsc in network computing and bsc hons in sound engineering, but i have taught myself everything i know about cars, engine tuning and turbo charging etc... still have quite a lot to learn about all the systems etc... and using the megasquirt is gonna be a steep learning curve in engine management there.

just working on getting a website up and running with all the pictures uploaded and descriptions and project progress etc... which i shall be posting.

obviously it being a 20 year old volvo, its not the usual car which people would expect to be modified up, so it kinda makes the perfect sleeper. I did have a 940 2.3 turbo which i got to about 300hp and would do about 170 (legally on track) but i blew the turbo on that one by running the boost far too high above what the turbo was spec'd for ... think it gave up the ghost when i dropped it a gear and the 25psi boost was a tad overkill at the time. nice oil slick on the strip with parts of turbo flung into the pistons. was very nasty taking the head off and seeing a few bent valves etc...

cheers for the welcome. i'll be floating around with my wealth of knowledge etc...

M

yeah the 850 T5 and the gul yellow 850 T5-R were the cars that put volvo's back on the scene. A guy named russel from a volvo specialist RT mechanics has a 531bhp gul yellow 850 T5-R saloon (ultra rare as the estates were the most popular, around 35 in the uk, about 13 saloons in the uk) and that thing bloody shifts! he has spent insane amounts of money on it though, pretty much all of it is custom made in the workshop. Tis flippin fantastic!

there is a lot you can do with the volvo's these days, they are quite the underdog. i have a friend with an s60r which is chipped etc... thats puttin out about 350hp which is mental.

iPD usa have a new c30 which they have modded up with supercharger etc... that looks very nice, the c30r 2.5 turbo is also a very understated car.

A lot of people think tank when they hear volvo, that is the case with the older ones, but the newer models are pretty good platforms for modifying, there is a whole underground community with the volvos in the uk, good reliable cheap to insure cars and fun to drive when modded and racing other modified cars, its good to see the look of shock on someones face when own them on the motorway Smile

take a look at this video and you'll see what i am aiming for with my 740 Smile

Sounds like you know what your doing then lol unlike me haha

Yeah im a volvo fan, my T5 is up to 340bhp and 310 at the wheels at mo, RICA chip etc but yeah i get alot of stick, people saying oh you have an old mans tank, etc not realising how quick they can be and how reliable they are!

Anyway welcome and would be good to catch up and have a chat, if you plan on attending meets/shows this year?

haha yeah that would be most awesome! i think it would be quite funny. Of course my avatar WAS the sound setup i had in the car about 3 years ago, obviously, in the interest of weight saving and a period of drug abuse that i went through, i sold it all for my habbit, but i am so glad i didnt sell the cars! lesson learnt!!!
